The 7 main chakras are energy centers in the body that are aligned along the spine. Each chakra in the body is associated with internal organs and their functioning. The chakras also have mental, emotional, and spiritual meanings, colors, musical tones, etc. Studying this Hindu system can be helpful in bringing your body into a clear and aligned state. Here are some of the associations:
1st chakra = red, base of spine, race, family, source, security
2nd chakra = orange, pelvic, relationships of all kinds, creativity
3rd chakra = yellow, solar plexus, self-esteem and will
4th chakra = green, heart center, healing, love and emotions
5th chakra = blue, throat, expression, truth
6th chakra = indigo, 3rd eye/brow, knowledge, intuition
7th chakra = purple, white, gold, crown/top-of-head, spiritual connection
The necklace is a net technique which was in Bead & Button magazine way back in October, 1995, issue 11. I have another necklace on this site using a single bead color. Basically, this is the same necklace, but with a pattern of sorts using the chakra colors (which are also the colors of the rainbow).
The bracelet was done using the spiral rope chain. What I did is use the same number of beads in the 7 chakra colors for the core of the bracelet, and a transparent crystal matte bead for the outer spirals. If you use 7 beads of each color (twice) you will end up with a bracelet approximately 6" (without a clasp). Similarly, using 8 beads results in a length of 6 7/8", and 9 beads results in 7 5/8". Adding the clasps produces a pretty nice length for small, medium and large wrists.
Healing intention aside, I think these make lovely summer jewelry don't you? Another beader and friend Ellen Overaa thought that the zulu flowerette bracelet would work well in the chakra colors, and I agree...I have put that on my list of things to do (smile).
(3/19/2000) I have found that there is a renewed interest in things chakra colored. So far, in the last 2 weeks I have had a few orders for new chakra jewelry, so I have added 2 pieces to this page. One is a necklace made like the bracelets in the spiral rope chain, this time it is done all in opaque beads. The necklace is large enough to slip over the head. The other new chakra necklace is a African Net Necklace done in those same opaque beads. I think it turned out very nice and I hope you like it too!
I hope you like this beadwork, please let me know your thoughts by Signing My Guestbook or by sending me an e-mail.
In Love, Light & Healing...
