Beaded Knitted Amulet Pouch - Funky Bag

beaded knitted bag

I somehow found out about this pattern in the Summer 1997 issue of Interweave magazine and went on a mad search to get a copy. I knitted up this bag and then it just sat around, waiting for me to create the neckpiece. I really liked how it turned out, but I was stumped on how I was going to get matching beads for the neckpiece. Matte beads of that color blue are hard to find. I finally brought the bag to a local beadstore that sells larger-than-seed beads by the bead, Bijoux Beads, in the Rosedale Mall in St. Paul (Roseville). The owner talked me into the matte white carnival glass beads in 2 sizes. I already had the bright pink lentil beads, so I just had to round out the bunch with the other blue and green beads.

This bag is knitted in Caron Wildflowers thread in Nefertiti/008. The seed beads are a czech matte in the hard-to-match blue. Because the beads were so slim, the resultant size of the bag is a bit long and skinny. So far this bag is labeled "funky" but I think "old hippie" fits too...especially since the bag has that dowdy look I am so famous for. I think I popped out of the womb being an "old lady"...oh well.

I hope you like this beadwork, please let me know your thoughts by Signing My Guestbook. Or by sending me an e-mail.
