This is a design that I created by first scanning a metal pendant that I wear, then modifying it to make it look more like my own hand, and to get the spiral right. This hand design is similar to an ancient one, called the hand of Fatima, or Hamsa Hand but you often see it with the fingers pointing down and with a bilateral thumb. The Hand of Fatima is a hand of protection. The spiral on this one reminds me of the healing energy that comes from doing Reiki healing, so I call it my Healing Hand. I plan on doing a series of bags using a hand for the main element.
This bag is done in peyote using Delica beads. The main color is a matte purple iris...I know, I know, it looks very brown but it is really more purple toned. The other Delica bead is a steel color. The fingers and part of the palm of the hand protrude -- these are done using flat peyote. The bag has sides and a bottom, the scan is true to size.
The strap is done in a continuous 27 inches of spiral rope chain, done in a combination of delicas from the body of the bag and a czech seed bead mix in amethyst tones with larger amethyst colored beads added on each side of the strap and in the fringe. The spiral designs hanging from the "fringe" are sterling silver charms.
