My Mexican Heritage

I am of Mexican heritage. My paternal grandparents were born and raised in Mexico. The colors of the Mexican flag are green white and red, as is the Italian flag and a slew of others. I am also of Russian and Polish ancestry...need to do necklaces for those too (grin).

I thought I would try out another "dutch" spiral, but this time I used the directions found on the Mining Company's beading site, which is hosted by the lovely and talented Emily. Well, I kind of used those directions...I did them somewhat backwards and didn't use as many beads in the long ladder portions. The beads I used are silver-lined green 6s, green matte 11s, white matte AB 11s, crystal matte transparent 11s and old czechs in red. For the spiral rope chain portion I used the crystal matte transparent for the core, and the outer spiral in the white matte AB sandwiching a crystal matte transparent. Every 11th row I used a green matte instead of the crystal matte transparent. (Are you confused yet???). I connected the two spirals by original inspiration for this necklace - a lovely Venetian bead in green, white and red.

Now, for some really nitty-gritty details. I used a total of 153 silverlined green 6s which is about what you would find in a small bag. I actually have a total count of all beads used (I am somewhat obsessed) - but what most of you will want to know is "just how long did this necklace take to make?" The dutch spiral portion took a little over 4 hours, the spiral rope portion took about 2.5 hours, and I am a pretty fast and even beader.

I hope you like this beadwork, please let me know your thoughts by Signing My Guestbook or by sending me an e-mail.
