Red Lariat with Leaf Fringe

lariatThis necklace took a long time to do, especially since I seemed to only work on it during the bead retreats in the Spring and Fall of each year.

This lariat is a Ndbele tube, with larger beads used to catch the loop on one end, and leaf fringe on the other. I made the loop by just flattening that end and then carefully looping and attaching it...trying as best as I could to keep any thread from showing.

The seed beads I used were czech white hearts, and if you have ever worked with czech seed beads, you will know that sometimes these beads are very tiny, so this necklace didn't progress very far very fast. It was also maddening because every once in a while I would come across a bead where one thread pass was fine, but several wasn't. So I found myself putting a row on and then having to back up because I couldn't go through the bead again later.

I finally finished this one by just putting my mind and hands to it, determined to complete the project. When I look closely at this lariat I always see some mistakes in my thread passes for the Ndbele, but I just tell myself that it adds to the charm of the necklace.
