Teardrop Cabochon

My sister purchased this beautiful Laguna Agate at a local rock and mineral show here in St. Paul. That was last year, and she was getting anxious for me to do something with it. Because it is a beautiful translucent piece, I didn't want to cover the back. I read an article in the April 1998 issue Jewelry Crafts magazine by Sigrid Wynne-Evans, "Seed Bead Bezels: A Perfect Frame for a Transparent Cabochon". I tried the instructions out several times and was unsuccessful in getting the beadwork around the cab. I put the project aside until I saw a beautiful finished teardrop cab on Pat Murphy's beadwork site. I emailed her and asked for any tips -- she shared with me that she had learned to:

Basically, this is just what Sigrid had taught in her article with the difference of using a form first - those cabs are slippery, the form helped immensely.

The necklace part is a continuous 27" of spiral rope chain done with a combination of 11s and 14s.

I hope you like this beadwork, please let me know your thoughts by Signing My Guestbook or by sending me an e-mail.
